(Reserves player)
The son of champion West Coast full-forward Peter Sumich, Zane joined the Eagles' reserves side during 2021.
West Coast career[]
The younger Sumich went undrafted after coming up through South Fremantle's colts, and spent more than three seasons in the Bulldogs' reserves, playing one senior game in 2019. He crossed to the Eagles midway through 2021, and immediately became a fixture in the side's backline. With the departure of Hamish Brayshaw for East Perth at the end of the year, Sumich was appointed captain in 2022.[1] Additionally, he was one of four Eagles reserves players included on the Covid contingency list.
After giving up the captaincy to Jackson Nelson, Sumich just played eight games in 2023 as he suffered from a number of injuries. Generally used as a defender, he was swung forward late in the year and kicked two bags of three goals.
