Goldfields product Tyrell Dewar joined West Coast as an academy selection ahead of the 2023 season.

West Coast career[]

A member of West Coast's Next Generation Academy, Dewar was overlooked in the 2022 national draft, allowing the club to add him as a Category B rookie alongside Jordyn Baker. On being drafted, he was described as a natural and crafty forward in the mold of high-leaping Liam Ryan.[1]

Dewar was one of just a handful of players to play every game for West Coast's reserves side in 2023, and finished third in the side's goalkicking. He also found himself in the extended AFL squad on a couple of occasions, although that was as much to do with the club's availability crisis as his own form, and pushed up onto a wing late in the year after starting as a forward.

After an impressive pre-season, Dewar debuted early in the 2024 season and played seven games for the year, showing promise as a creative small forward.
