The brother of Brisbane Lion Ashley and former Essendon and Carlton player Cory, Toby McGrath spent a year on West Coast's rookie list.
West Coast career[]
McGrath was picked up by West Coast with their first pick in the 2000 rookie draft (ahead of Dean Cox) after being a regular in South Fremantle's league side at the age of 18. He was delisted after one season without playing a senior game.
Essendon career[]
After a strong 2001 season with Souths, McGrath was picked up by Essendon in the 2002 rookie draft, joining older brother Cory at the Bombers. He spent two years at Windy Hill but did not make his AFL debut.
Post-AFL career[]
McGrath returned to South Freo after being let go by Essendon, winning the club's best and fairest in 2004. In 2005 he won the Sandover Medal, as well as the Simpson Medal as the Bulldogs' best in the grand final win. He won another B&F in 2008, another premiership in 2009 and represented WA on six occasions, including once as captain. McGrath retired following the 2012 season. In 2015 he signed on as coach of Peel Football League side Mundijong Centrals, taking them to a grand final in 2018.[1]
