& Callum Mills
The South Melbourne Football Club was formed in 1874, and was one of the inaugural members of the Victorian Football League in 1897. The club won three premierships in 1909, 1918 and 1933 before enduring a record 72-year premiership drought. During that time, the Swans relocated to Sydney to become the first non-Victorian team to compete in the VFL. The club finally broke its premiership drought in 2005 against West Coast, as part of a remarkable sequence of close finishes between the two sides. The Swans won a fifth premiership in 2012.
