(44th Eagles player)
A veteran at WAFL level before breaking into the VFL, Shane Ellis won a best and fairest with East Fremantle in 1982 and played in the Sharks’ grand final team that lost to Swan Districts in 1984 before having his first crack at VFL footy.
Esssendon career[]
He spent the 1985 season with Essendon but failed to play a match for the Bombers and returned to Shark Park to again play in a losing grand final in 1986.
West Coast career[]
A hard-running half-back, Ellis got his chance when selected by West Coast in the 1989 pre-season draft and made his debut in the opening round that year at the age of 28. He hit a purple patch early in the year, kicking eight goals in four matches including a haul of three goals against the Swans in Sydney, and in all he played 10 games for the year.
Ellis was retained on the list for the 1990 season but failed to play another senior game, and was delisted ahead of the mid-season draft.
Post-VFL/AFL career[]
Ellis continued to play for East Fremantle in 1991 before retiring.
