Stung by the surprise loss to the Swans the previous week, West Coast dominated the Western Bulldogs to record a thumping 74 point win in drizzly conditions at Subiaco. After a relatively tight first quarter, the Bulldogs were able to add just two goals for the rest of the match as the Adam Hunter-led defence repelled nearly every attack. The Eagles took a fairly comfortable 33 point lead into the final term, which became party time as they piled on seven goals to end the Bulldogs' season. Quinten Lynch kicked 6 goals, Hunter added 4 in his sorties forward and Sam Butler led all players with 30 disposals.

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"Hansen's rehearsal was a tour de force, cementing his place in the cast for the remainder of September with a powerful performance at centre half-forward.

Missing for four weeks, the big red-head never fluffed a line or an action as he continually presented a strong marking option to his midfielders and defenders. Hansen became the funnel to goals.

He went from a possible bit-player to a role with particularly more meaning, and a performance that probably had Staker sitting uneasily in his seat, though Staker occupies a different forward function.

Brett Jones did some tough yards on relentless runner Brad Johnson before handing the reins to Adam Selwood and, while he wasn't prominent, he was strong and robust and his ability to play on a variety of opponents should ensure more September work."

The Sunday Age[]

"By the time Matthew Robbins kicked the Bulldogs' first goal of the second half at the 16-minute mark of the final quarter, the match was shot to bits and so was any confidence that the young Bulldogs could pull off an unlikely win.

Their resolve had been tackled, harassed and run out of them by West Coast, and the courage they had shown to defy injury worries all season quickly dissolved in the second half.

The Eagles started the match as if fired from a cannon. Hunter had the first goal within the opening two minutes. Chris Grant pulled one back for the Bulldogs but Quinten Lynch and Ashley Hansen kicked the next two for the home team and the Bulldogs looked in trouble.

They were being dominated around the stoppages where Chris Judd was wreaking havoc. Hunter was having a field day running veteran forward Grant down the ground providing an extra option in attack."
