Former Collingwood captain Scott Burns spent five seasons as an assistant coach under John Worsfold before heading back to the Magpies when Worsfold resigned.
Playing career[]
The South Australian Burns was picked up by Collingwood late in the 1992 national draft but remained at his SANFL club Norwood for two more seasons before eventually joining the Pies. He made an instant impact, winning the club's Best First Year player award in 1995 and finishing runner-up in the B&F the following year. The high-production midfielder played 265 games for the Magpies and captained the side in 2008 following the retirement of Nathan Buckley. He retired at the end of the 2008 season and was immediately appointed as an assistant coach at West Coast under Worsfold.
Coaching career[]
Burns spent five seasons as an assistant in charge of the Eagles' midfield. During that time he was regularly touted as a likely senior coach. After he unsuccessfully applied for the top spot at West Coast after Worsfold's departure, Burns quit the club and returned to Melbourne where he quickly got a job as an assistant under Buckley at Collingwood.
