From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"Four goals either side of half time including consecutive majors to a lively McKinley threatened to break the game open as St Kilda struggled to make the most of their dominance in forward 50 entries, scoring just four goals in the first half.

Milne’s goal from a tight angle in the right pocket at the eight-minute mark of the third term sparked the battling Saints, who started to use the ball long and direct.

The visitors kicked six unanswered goals before withstanding a brief challenge from West Coast to avoid slumping to a third consecutive loss."[1]

The Age[]

"With West Coast leading entering time-on in the third term, Andrew Embley was primed to streak into an open forward line to halt the visitors' momentum, until he fumbled a simple bounce and Jason Blake pounced.

Moments later, Goddard scored after striding through the heart of Subiaco and in the same action ripping out the heart of John Worsfold's battlers.

Hayes' finesse in the final seconds of the third completed a 33-point turnaround, after Ben McKinley's four first-half goals had continued the home side's momentum built up with two successive wins.

McKinley was only playing because Ashley Hansen's hip was sore from kicking too many goals in the WAFL.

But in the best two quarters of his professional career, the 23-year-old matched St Kilda's attacking output, which hinged on Milne but needed more direction from Justin Koschitzke."[2]

WAFL[]

There was a general bye in the WAFL as a representative side (including Strijk) played Victoria at Leederville Oval.
