West Coast had a handy lead early but squandered their chances in the second quarter to trail at half-time. Collingwood then kicked three quick goals at the start of the second half to take full control, and led by as much as 35 in the final quarter before a couple of late Ben McKinley goals improved the scoreboard a little.

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"It was the indigenous round and Davis flew the flag, earning eight disposals in the first 12 minutes to provide a forerunner to the intensity that would accompany the Pies work for the night.

Dick's a clever, industrious forward and both men's skill level contrasted sharply with the often botched efforts of the Eagles. And the home side failed to match the passion of the Pies.

West Coast play-maker Daniel Kerr had plenty of intensity and intent but his disposal at times made his efforts counter-productive because of his inability to direct the ball to a teammate.

And it was contagious. West Coast found it hard to take a creative breath under the Collingwood blowtorch."[1]

Players in the WAFL[]

There was a general bye in the WAFL as a representative side played the best of the SANFL. Former Eagle Jaymie Graham and future Eagle Lewis Jetta were among WA's best in a one-point win.
