From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The Eagles' win looked impressive on the scoreboard, but a magnificent defensive effort from Roys' veteran Paul Roos removed some of the gloss. His 42 possessions from centre half-back exposed again West Coast's problem child at centre half-forward.

Roos' best-on-ground display - which drew accolades from both his coach Robert Shaw and Malthouse - was ably backed by Alistair Lynch at fullback, who kept star Eagles forward Peter Sumich to just four goals.

West Coast's ability to get numbers at every contest and maintain its cool in the close clinches proved too much for Fitzroy's younger brigade."[1]
