West Coast and Sydney renewed their history of tight finishes with a nailbiter at Stadium Australia. Down by 19 points at the final change, the Eagles battled back and when Scott Selwood goaled heading towards time-on they led by a point, but Sydney regained the lead and took the points. Josh Kennedy impressed with 11 marks and 3 goals, and Sam Butler had 20 touches and 6 tackles in his 50th appearance.

From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"Adam Cockie and Quinten Lynch both missed goals they should have kicked just after Selwood had put them in front. Mark Nicoski was caught holding the ball inside the final minute and a missed kick by Ben McKinley, which needed to travel only 20 metres to find Dean Cox alone in the goal square as the Eagles closed in on victory, slid through for a behind.
Also, the decision to try to lock down the match and keep possession when in front with five minutes to play - a ploy seemingly orchestrated by Cox - was ultimately flawed. At the time, West Coast were flying with abundant pressure and Sydney seemed out on their feet.
It gave them a rest and a view to attack, rather than having to defend and the combination proved fatal to the Eagles."[1]
