From the papers[]

The Age[]

"In typical Malthouse fashion, West Coast closed down vital Footscray players Simon Atkins, Steve Kolyniuk and Tony Liberatore to establish control in the midfield.

Atkins still managed 27 possessions, but was closely watched by Scott Watters; Kolyniuk was closed out by Dean Kemp and Liberatore was shut down in a superb tagging effort by Dwayne Lamb.

The Eagles rekindled all the running, hungry pack-hunting and blistering pace that highlighted their early home-and-away football of last season. Those characteristics had been missing in the Eagles' opening six outings for 1992.

It was a clash filled with the controversy and aggression of a final, with West Coast follower Chris Lewis and Footscray veteran Steve MacPherson reported."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"Between them, Heady and his partner on the forward line, Ashley McIntosh, kicked 11 goals and along with wingman Peter Matera they were instrumental in a first-quarter blitz of the Bulldogs.

Heady celebrated with a goal in the opening minute, thanks largely to a 50m penalty, but he relied purely on his own abilities to put through another three before quarter time.

Heady finished with seven goals before being taken off in what Malthouse said was a precautionary move early in the final quarter.

With McIntosh, Heady gave the Eagles genuine targets to which their teammates delivered the ball with unerring regularity. Also turning out after injury and forced lay-offs were Craig Turley and Guy McKenna, both of whom played major roles in the Eagles' 54 point opening term."[2]
