West Coast recorded their sixth straight win with a comfortable home victory over Port Adelaide. The Eagles opened up a 55 point lead during the third quarter before a run of five straight goals from the Power threatened to close the gap, before the home side steadied to run out seven-goal victors. Jack Darling continued his strong early-season form with ten marks and three goals, and Jack Redden led the midfield with 32 possessions after the Eagles lost Luke Shuey to a hamstring injury in the opening minutes.

From the coach[]

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"The Eagles were up and about early, shrugging off the disappointment of Shuey’s loss to kick four goals to two in the opening stanza.

The early highlights were steals from second-gamer Jack Petruccelle and Darling, who both stripped the ball off their opponents in memorable plays that led to goals.

The Eagles put the gap in the game in the second term, when they dominated the contested ball count 43-24 and the clearances 11-5. They added five goals to one to blow the half-time lead out beyond six goals, with the energy of Rioli a major factor.

Spearhead Josh Kennedy was slowed by a knee to the hip from Power defender Dougal Howard in the second quarter, but he looked in better nick as he started the third term with two quick goals to take his tally to four."

The Age[]

"Jack Watts kicked his only goal one minute after Rioli’s and then for the first time the visitors managed consecutive goals. In fact, they kicked five in a row.

The margin got back to 24 points, just five minutes into the final term.

Charlie Dixon became a dangerous target in attack and Jack Watts started to get his hands on the ball also. It would have been the equal best-ever comeback if they’d been able to keep going.

But an important free kick to Mark Hutchings 10 minutes into the last term was converted and five minutes later newcomer Jack Petruccelle blew away Jasper Pittard in a race for a loose ball to kick his second goal."

East Perth report[]
