West Coast scored a stirring away win over Port Adelaide, opening up a 27-point lead early in the final term and then hanging on as the Power pressed late. The backline stood up under immense pressure, limiting Port to 12 goals from 68 inside-50s, led by the in-form Elliot Yeo who had 27 disposals and an important late goal. Mark LeCras kicked three first-term goals and finished with four.

From the coach[]
"We did find a way to win, didn't we? Not many numbers are in our favour from the game, but I suppose the biggest stat we looked at today was the contested possession. It's something that's been lacking when we've traveled away from home and it was a real focus of ours. I thought that was the only reason we stayed in the game there at stages, our ability to fight it out. We got some ascendancy at the start of the third which probably broke it open a little bit. I'm really proud of our players and our back line in particular for handling 68 inside 50s. It was a good effort by them.
"You've got to make the most of your opportunities when you go forward and you've got to convert. We kicked straight, which was really important. But if we weren't in front in the ground ball and contested ball, it would've gone the other way.
"...I don't think we gave up the lead, so we started well which is really important here. We seemed to respond pretty quickly when they scored. Centre-bounce goals, I think we kicked a couple when they seemed to get a bit of momentum. But I suppose it was the start of that third quarter when they jumped out of the blocks that set us up."
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"Port Adelaide did most of the attacking in the final term and outscored the visitors five goals to three.
Meanwhile, the home side lacked composure as it reverted back to its way of 2016 with poor entry inside 50.
The Eagles led midway through the third term thanks to four unanswered goals - all claimed from centre-bounce clearances.
But the Power fought back and managed to cut it to 21 points at the final break."
The Age[]
"Although West Coast had been labelled "flat-track bullies" and criticised for its inability to win on the road, it has recorded a victory in five out of its last six matches in Adelaide.
The result - which was built on the back of four quick, unanswered goals from the centre bounce early in the third term - lifted the side to fourth place on the ladder.
But it did not come without a fight, as the Power, led by Chad Wingard, Brad Ebert, Charlie Dixon and Paddy Ryder in the ruck, battled hard to get their side within seven points at the 23rd minute mark of the final term."
East Perth report[]
East Perth have a bye.
