From the papers[]

The Sunday Age[]

"On a day when the wind blew fiercely from the west and it poured with rain in the second quarter, the Eagles controlled the play and led at every change.

The Eagles' brilliant captain Ben Cousins led by example with another near-flawless display on the ball, a performance that would have further enhanced his Brownlow Medal prospects.

Cousins picked up 30 possessions on the way to a best-on-ground performance, but got plenty of support in the midfield from Daniel Kerr (26 possessions), Chad Fletcher (25), Michael Braun (19) and Peter Matera (21 ).

The Eagles' midfield dominance was the most telling factor in the result, especially as Worsfold's team went into the game without No. 1 ruckman Michael Gardiner. However, Dean Cox, 20, stepped into Gardiner's shoes with a solid display against Roos Matthew Burton and Mark Porter."[1]
