The home side had kicked just three goals to three-quarter time and had already lost captain Dean Kemp, Michael Prior, Chad Morrison and Ashley McIntosh by that point, with Prior added to the list of Eagles requiring a knee reconstruction. Chad Fletcher kicked two goals from 19 touches to be amongst the side's best.

But when Port Adelaide handed West Coast their heaviest defeat at Subiaco Oval under Ken Judge, the Eagles were flattered by the by the 17.19 (121) to 7.8 (50) scoreline.
