From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Brett Heady once again rose to a big occasion, relishing the room provided by Quenton Leach and kicking five goals in a superb display full of running, tackling and courage.

Ruckman Matthew Burton, assisted by Clinton Wolf, had the better of Ryan Turnbull all day. But even when the Docker pair won the taps, the class of the Eagles' rovers and on-ballers caused many costly turnovers.

Winston Abraham was terrific for the Dockers and diminutive rover Peter Miller weaved in and out of play all day, picking up 17 useful possessions.

But Eagle champion Peter Matera, back after three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, ran down the speedy Abraham several times."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"As the match wore on, midfielders Craig Turley and Tony Evans warmed to the task, collecting possessions and kicks almost at will. Turley's second goal was a courageous effort, staying on his feet and beating two men after collecting a rolling ball to slot it through from the right forward pocket.

Soon after, forward Jason Ball produced a magic goal from an acute angle, thanks to the hardworking Heady, and from there on the Eagles buried the new boys into the resurfaced Subiaco turf.

In front of 41,600 fans, the premiership team produced seven goals to two during the "premiership" quarter to set up animpressive but well-deserved scoreline."[2]
