West Coast rebounded with a big win over local rivals Fremantle in Western Derby 45. The Eagles jumped Freo in the first term with seven goals, and were able to keep the match on their terms throughout to run out 41-point victors. Josh Kennedy won his second straight Glendinning Medal after booting six goals, while Elliot Yeo recorded 32 possessions and 14 marks while keeping Dockers skipper Nathan Fyfe relatively quiet.

From the coach[]

"It was a good response after a disappointing week. We thought Freo was a difficult challenge. They'd won three in a row and would have been up and about. To start the way we did was really pleasing. I thought we lowered our colours in the second half, it was a pretty equal second half. But it probably leaves us with more questions than answers about where we're at at the moment. We respect the win and take it, and we're 4-2. That's a good position to be in. But we've still got some work to do.

"...You always want to see that [killer instinct] but teams respond, so momentum shifts happen and I thought we defended really well almost all night. So teams are going to challenge. I don't think we can say we're just going to rock up and win every quarter. But the start of the game and the really good intent that we showed was pleasing. But we're looking to do that next week."

"...In the first quarter we were +10 or +11 in pre- and post-clearances. I think we won a fair share of our one-on-ones and when you do that you can feed off it. And when you fumble and you cough it up, you don't. It's prety simple."

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"The Eagles went inside 50 just 11 times in the opening term. The demoralised Dockers had 12 entries of their own. The quarter-time score-line of 7.2 to 1.2 told a tale of two ends of the ground.

At one end, the Eagles showed off their arsenal in attack as Josh Kennedy, who finished with a bag of six and his second straight Glendinning Medal, Jack Darling and Josh Hill all kicked two goals for the quarter.

At the other, there was Jeremy McGovern.

Returning to defence, McGovern was a brick wall in the first half as he dragged down nine marks, with seven of them intercepts."

The Age[]

"The victory was a terrific reply from West Coast, who endured a tough week of scrutiny after returning to Perth following their embarrassing 50-point loss to Hawthorn at the MCG last week.

Efficiency in attack and goal scoring were issues against the Hawks, but not against the Dockers on Saturday night, particularly early.

The damage was done in the opening term when they kicked 7.2 from just 11 inside-50 entries. Josh Kennedy, Josh Hill and Jack Darling each had two goals by quarter-time. That trio kicked seven between them last week, over four quarters, and Darling booted four of those.

Hill kicked one more after the first break this week and Mark LeCras chimed in with three also."

East Perth report[]

Round 7 (29 April)

East Perth won their second straight game after overcoming an inaccurate Peel Thunder to win by 33 points. Tom Lamb kicked four goals and Matthew Allen added three in his first senior game for the year.

Appearing for East Perth: Allen, Cole, Gorter, Jetta, Karpany, Lamb, MacKenzie, McInnes, Rotham, Schofield, Venables. Reserves: Bayok, Snadden.
