A wasteful West Coast seemed to have the game sewn up in the final quarter, up by 24 points and dominating possession, albeit with only a goal to show for it. Then a late Carlton blast saw the Blues take the lead, and then hold on grimly as West Coast continued to blow good chances on goal. Matt Priddis had plenty of possession as usual and Brad Sheppard was fearless in defence in his 50th game.

From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"The Eagles had six more inside 50s than the Blues, an extra seven scoring shots but kicked 12.17 including three behinds in the last three minutes to lose 14.8 (92) to 12.17 (89). West Coast have booted 7.23 after half-time in the last three weeks and lost all three games.
The Eagles led by 24 points midway through the final term before allowing the Blues to storm home. Simpson said goalkicking was a key area of the game that needed improving.
"To get a lead like that and not to ice the game is really disappointing," Simpson said."
The Age[]
"Carlton coach Mick Malthouse labelled a stunning come-from-behind win over the West Coast Eagles one of the best of his 30-year coaching career after the Blues conjured a three-point win at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
Trailing by four goals with 10 minutes remaining, the Blues produced a stirring response, booting straight five goals to secure back-to-back wins and set up an enticing clash against Collingwood next Friday night.
The Blues appeared out of run early in the final term but Jeff Garlett's third goal of the game and another two minutes later from Zach Tuohy, who had earlier been given a public lashing by Malthouse for a botched short kick, provided momentum the Eagles were unable to halt."
Herald-Sun[]
"But Carlton simply refused to yield to eventually pull off what could be a season-defining three-points victory against all odds.
The Blues seemed dead and buried when Eagles sub Dom Sheed stretched the lead to 22 points with a goal on the run to break 10 minutes of stalemate in the final quarter.
Low on energy but overloaded with determination, Carlton players kept coming, amazingly booting the last five goals to snatch the unlikely victory"
East Perth report[]
East Perth bounced back from consecutive losses to post a 22 point win over Perth, winning 14.14.98 to 11.10.76. Sam Butler and Brant Colledge were busy in the middle, and Blayne Wilson did a solid job on Perth skipper Paul Bevan.
Appearing for East Perth: Butler, Carter, Colledge, Hill, Karpany, Maginness,, McInnes, Sinclair, Smith, Tunbridge, Wilson. Reserves: Barrass, Main, Powell
