After beating the reigning premiers the previous week, West Coast were quickly brought back to earth by Port Adelaide who were unstoppable in the first quarter. The Eagles fought back with a big second term but were hamstrung by a number of injuries to key players as Port easily regained control of the match. Ben Cousins led from the front with 25 possessions and 2 goals and Callum Chambers also kicked a brace from his 21 touches.

From the papers[]
The Age[]
"Port, with its midfielders firing and Warren Tredrea a strong-marking forward target, started and finished impressively and the Eagles had a productive second quarter - 7.3 to 2.3 - which left them only 14 points down at half-time.
But Port controlled the third quarter as it had dominated the first and ultimately blew the margin out by adding four goals in eight minutes late in the final term after West Coast had trimmed the difference to 31 points midway through the final term.
The Eagles were inspired by captain and tireless onballer Ben Cousins but were unsettled by the pre-match withdrawal of David Wirrpunda, who was with his sick mother in Melbourne, and injuries to Glen Jakovich (shoulder), Travis Gaspar (bruised hip), Daniel Kerr (cut left cheekbone) and Michael Gardiner (ankle)."[1]
