From the papers[]
The Age[]
"Doggedly, Richmond won this game for three quarters, but West Coast came with a rush in the last. Richmond did not score in the final quarter until Tony Free's goal 90 seconds from time-on, which trimmed the Eagles' lead to two points.
West Coast appeared safe after 26 minutes when Karl Langdon scooped a goal from a desperate goal-square scuffle, his second of the quarter.
But Richmond shovelled the ball forward, eventually to Dale Weightman alone in the goal square, and the lead was again two points. Less than a minute remained. Richmond hustled forward again, now to Jeff Hogg, who, since a heavy collision with John Worsfold at the end of the third quarter, had been in a sort of service bay in the forward pocket. He dribbled a behind."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"The Eagles are still to produce their magnificent running game of recent seasons, although mid-fielders Scott Watters, Chris Lewis and Chris Mainwaring all grabbed more than 20 possessions and provided plenty of drive.
But they failed up forward with full forward Peter Sumich kicking only one goal. Karl Langdon proved to be the best option up front with three goals, two of them in the final term.
Richmond was buoyed for three quarters by full-forward Todd Breman and centre half-forward Stevan Jackson, both former Eagles who were traded in the off-season for new West Coast rover Trent Nichols."[2]
