2 P.Ladhams (SYD)
1 L.Parker (SYD)
West Coast were humiliated by the Swans in a Good Friday night clash at Perth Stadium. The home side were beaten inside and outside and held scoreless until almost time-on in the second term and had just two goals by half-time, with the second half reduced to an exercise in limiting the damage. Liam Duggan had 25 touches alternating between defence and midfield and Liam Ryan kicked three goals from limited opportunities.

From the coach[]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"It was about returning stars being rusty, with Luke Shuey having just one touch for the (first) term and Elliot Yeo going without a possession.
But it was also about the stars they missed.
In the absence of Jeremy McGovern, Harry Edwards got out-marked twice as Logan McDonald and McLean kicked two goals each while Peter Ladhams led a total dominance of the ruck in the absence of Nic Naitanui leading to a 13-5 hit-out count.
When Justin McInerney kicked his first goal, Sydney's 10th, towards the tail end of the first half, he had three involvements in the play down Optus Stadium's southern wing and no Eagle could run with him. When Heeney had kicked his first minutes earlier it was the same story."[2]
The Age[]
"It wasn’t until almost 18 minutes into the second quarter that the Eagles finally registered their first score, breaking Sydney’s chain of eight unanswered goals – and it was pure charity, with Liam Ryan conning the umpire into awarding him a free kick, which he converted for one of his three goals, by exaggerating contact from Dane Rampe.
At the long break, the margin was 58 points, but the 39-10 count for inside 50s – the biggest half-time differential the AFL has seen since 2018 – suggested the scoreboard might have actually flattered the hosts.
As expected, West Coast tightened the screws when they emerged from what must have been an unflattering team talk from coach Adam Simpson, and outscored Sydney in the third quarter. But in the final term, they let themselves down again, enabling the Swans to pile on another seven goals. A few junk-time goals in response made it look much better than it really was for West Coast."[3]
Reserves[]
Round 1 (16 April)
West Coast's reserves opened their season with a heartbreaking loss to Perth. The Eagles started brightly but Perth worked their way back to have the game at level pegging by the main break, and the two sides traded blows in the second half, with a big final quarter by Fraser McInnes getting the Demons over the line, as the Eagles squandered several last-minute chances. Xavier O'Neill responded to being dropped with a team-high 27 possessions while Jake Waterman kicked two goals and took 12 marks.
