A lackluster West Coast were never in the hunt against a disciplined Swans outfit, in the inaugural HMAS Sydney tribute match between the two sides. Josh Kennedy kicked 3 goals to be among his side's best in his 50th AFL match, while Beau Waters was also a solid contributor.

From the papers[]

The Sunday Age[]

"Dean Cox scored on the stroke of half-time to give the Eagles momentum. It was a quarter in which the formidable ruck pair of Cox and Naitanui came to the fore, but their efforts were largely undone by the likes of Jack, Shaw, Nick Malceski, O'Keefe and Tadhg Kennelly at ground-level, and Lewis Roberts-Thomson, whose effort against Kennedy was superb.

The third term presented a huge challenge for the Swans, with Craig Bolton forced off and their lead cut to within three goals. But Jack's bump on Spangher fired up the side to halt the turning tide.

In the final term, the Eagles continued the fight with majors to Shannon Hurn, Chris Masten and Kennedy, who finished with three. But a fine effort by Shaw was capped off with a goal before the Swans closed out the match with majors to White, Goodes, new Swan Josh Kennedy and Bradshaw (his sixth)."
