From the papers[]

The Sunday Age[]

"While the scoreboard showed an Eagles victory by 26 points they, in fact, won by about 10 players. That is roughly the number of better players the Eagles had on the field. Bear in mind, too, that Glenn Jakovich and Fraser Gehrig were off the ground after quarter-time.

The scoreboard was misleading, in part, because the Hawks rattled off the first three goals of the game in an opening burst of eight minutes (two to Aaron Lord) and booted a few towards the end that made it a "respectable" loss on paper.

But what happened in the intervening 70 minutes wasn't pretty. Eagles midfielders used the ball much better than Hawthorn. Eagles forwards Scott Cummings and Mitchell White led and marked much better than their Hawk counterparts."[1]
