West Coast overcame a short five-day break and a persistent Swans side to return to the winners' list with a plucky 26-point win in a tight contest. Sydney kept touch with the Eagles throughout and narrowed the gap to a single goal early in the final term but the home side was able to kick away. Elliot Yeo (29 possessions, 11 marks) and Luke Shuey (30 possessions, 7 tackles) shared best-afield honours.

From the coach[]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"Sydney made it clear they wanted this to be a war of attrition in a fierce and scrappy first quarter where they had the better of early play, then coughed up goals to Andrew Gaff and Josh Hill, but hit back with two late goals to go to the first change square and well in the game.
The Eagles had edged two goals clear by half time off the back of goals to Kennedy, Mark LeCras and McGovern.
But there were also question marks over Mitchell’s continued role in the game after he got a whack in the lower leg from Jack Redden who was being swung in a tackle when he crashed into him.
Sydney had stayed in touch thanks to goals from Franklin and the impressive Tom Papley and as they had last week, West Coast had missed a few chances, going to the main break with a 5.9 scoreline. The Swans were still close enough if the Eagles showed any sign of fatigue."
The Age[]
"The Eagles used the late withdrawal of Jack Darling as an opportunity to play McGovern in attack – something Adam Simpson has wanted to do for a while and may want to do a little bit more.
Most of the game was played at a terrific tempo, reminiscent of games played between these two in 2005 and 2006.
Since 2007 though, the Swans have dominated games against these two sides, losing only one of 10 clashes between them.
But not on Thursday night, despite a terrific performance from Josh Kennedy (the Sydney variety). He just didn't have the support."
