West Coast opened their 2010 account with a comfortable victory over Essendon, but it came at a cost with Daniel Kerr ripping his hamstring off the bone. The Eagles' victory was set up in the second quarter as they kicked six goals to nil. Ruck pair Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui dominated their opponents, while Matt Priddis and Andrew Embley benefited handsomely from the silver service they provided.

From the papers[]

Herald-Sun[]

"Driven by Matt Priddis at the coalface, the Eagles' four-point quarter-time lead was scant reward after a term that saw them dominate clearances 16-5 and record 18 inside-50s to the Bombers' 10.

But they got full value for a dominant second quarter, kicking six goals to nil to open up a 39-point halftime break.

The Eagles kicked the first two goals of the third to make it nine straight, before David Hille's goal ended 49 goalless minutes for Essendon.

The Bombers enjoyed a period of control in a low-scoring third quarter, but struggled to crack a disciplined West Coast defence."
