From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"Darren Glass' shutdown of Rocca helped West Coast keep a lid on the taller Roos forwards but the enigmatic Harding proved to be a danger man, booting two goals despite Wirrpanda's attention.

On the other hand, the Eagles couldn't find a reliable avenue to goal.

Two of their forwards were among four Eagles who failed to get a possession in the opening term - Chick, Graham, Ashley Sampi and Mark Seaby. Michael Braun, who started on the bench, got one.

Judd was doing more than his share under the ever watchful eye of Brady Rawlings, but even so the Roos should have held a bigger lead than 10 points at the first break."[1]

The Age[]

"West Coast, on the back of four goals to Adam Hunter and three to David Wirrpanda, plus some typically magical bursts from Chris Judd, kicked clear for a four-goal win.

Thompson played a taxing role yesterday that involved moving from centre half-forward all the way into the Kangaroos' defensive 50-metre arc, and then being thrown into the ruck as part of the Roo's three-man rotation with David Hale and Drew Petrie.

The Kangaroos, through goals to Brent Harvey, Leigh Harding and Michael Firrito, went to the quarter-time break looking as if they were playing well enough to cause an upset.

They were winning plenty of possession, but the need was always going to be for goals. After breaking even in the second quarter, the Kangaroos squandered opportunities in the third, enabling West Coast to grab the lead for the first time since the opening minutes."[2]
