West Coast led narrowly at half-time and the two sides traded goals during the third quarter before Adelaide took control thanks to some Andrew McLeod magic. The Crows ended up with a comfortable 33 point buffer to continue West Coast's poor run away from Subi. David Wirrpanda picked up 26 possessions sweeping across the backline and Phil Matera kicked 5 goals to follow on from his haul of 7 the previous week.

From the papers[]
The Age[]
"Until David Haynes got two goals early in the last term, West Coast's main goalkicking option was slippery Phil Matera, who finished with five, despite some spectacular resistance from Graham Johncock
Tyson Stenglein quietened West Coast captain Ben Cousins and had enough of the ball himself, and Ricciuto, McLeod, Matthew Bode, Mark Bickley, Simon Goodwin and Chris Ladhams had plenty of it when it was their turn to perform midfield duties.
The Eagles were pleased with the ruckwork and field play of Michael Gardiner, just as the Crows were well satisfied with the contributions of their ruckmen Rhett Biglands and Clarke, as well as seasoned defenders Ben Hart and Nigel Smart."[2]
