The Eagles broke the game open in the third quarter to lead by 31 points before a surge by Fremantle saw the scores level at the final change. West Coast saw off the challenge with a big final quarter. Drew Banfield was exceptional with 30 possessions and three goals to win the inaugural Ross Glendinning Medal, and Michael Gardiner kicked a career-high five goals.
