From the papers[]
The Age[]
"The Blues had no spark, with only Glascott, Hanna and Gleeson giving them some hope, but Gleeson spoiled his play with two bad shots for goal.
The defence of Laidley, Rance and McKenna was almost impregnable while at the other end of the ground the three big forwards Jackson, Langdon and Sumich were causing constant problems for Carlton.
The Eagles kicked 3.6 to 1.3 for the quarter and the 20 point break at the long interval appeared decisive.
The Eagles crused Carlton in the middle stages of their clash. The Blues really fell in a heap when Silvagni was injured in the second quarter and the home side powered away to a 20 point lead at half time."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"The West Coast Eagles gave a full-house WACA Ground one of its finest nights in the Australian Football League on Friday night with a quality SO-point win over Carlton.
The Eagles' third win from four matches this season left no doubt about their credentials to stake a strong claim for a berth in the final five.
The relentless and professional nature of their win — 17.18 (120) to 10.10 (70) — showed they had arrived as a power to be reckoned with."[2]
