West Coast gave up top spot on the ladder to Collingwood with a disappointing loss at Victoria Park. Only a dominant third quarter in which the Eagles kicked four goals while holding the Magpies goalless saved the visitors from a heavier defeat. Ross Glendinning kicked half of his team's goals and Dean Turner had a team-high 25 possessions.

From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Victoria Park is not just a football ground, it is an experience. For West Coast on Saturday, it became one of life's experiences that you have to grin and bear. The Eagles managed to do that, but not much else.

West Coast coach John Todd claimed later that the ground and its thousands of parochial inhabitants were not to blame for the paltry performance of his team, allegedly one of the competition's truly classy sides. He must have been joking, because on several occasions you could almost see the ball change direction in midair, to suit the Collingwood backline or forward line. A Collingwood game is just an excuse for a convention of people endowed with telekinesis."[1]
