After bursting out of the blocks in the first quarter, West Coast cruised to an 81-point win in their first meeting with the competition's newest club. Midfielders Luke Shuey and Chris Masten dominated with 8 goals between them.

From the coach[]
"I think (it was) a tough day at the office and look forward to preparing for next week's game against the Hawks. We've come here to win the game and done that and we're ready to go.
"...Every game we've ever played there's stuff we think we can work on and get better at, so we'll certainly take stuff out of today's game, as we always do, that we need to get better at.
"...There were times we didn't play as well as we can, there's no doubt about that. We were shuffling players around a couple of times in those (second and fourth) quarters to cover the injuries and things like that. But that's no real excuse for not maintaining good form."[1]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"It is probably fair to say Worsfold could not have the half-time siren come quickly enough so he could refocus his team, who managed only four goals in the second term to lead by 73 points.
The less-than-cohesive period continued after the break for West Coast. Not only did GWS surprisingly dominate a scoreless first 10 minutes for the Eagles, but Nic Naitanui and Patrick McGinnity were feeling the effects of separate head clashes.
But when McGinnity returned to be the scoring drought-breaker, suddenly West Coast started to appear more settled and organised and their six goals to two for the third quarter restored natural order.
Naitanui and Shuey combined for a clinical ruck-to-rover centre clearance to set up the latter for his fifth goal as his superior strength showed as he broke free of Stephen Coniglio."[2]
The Age[]
"The free-scoring Eagles kicked over 20 goals for the third straight game this season despite missing several injured stars and were too slick and potent for the hard-working Giants.
A crowd of 6875 attending the first-ever AFL game at Blacktown International Sports Park, witnessed a wonderful first quarter kicking exhibition by the Eagles.
Almost all of their first six goals came from kicks well over 40 metres, with Luke Shuey bagging three and Chris Masten and Josh Kennedy two apiece."[3]
