Fremantle continued their good run in derbies, opening up a handy lead during the second quarter and then holding on during a tight second half to record a close win. Daniel Kerr was back to his best in the midfield while late inclusion Ben McKinley impressed with three goals in just his second senior game.

From the coach[]
"Really, in a 15-minute period in that second quarter they kicked five goals and that was the game.
"That (skill level and decision-making)'s what cost us at the start of the second quarter, no doubt. We went forward and turned the ball over and they got easy rebound goals on us. At least three of those five goals were from our errors going forward.
"I don't think it's new players making mistakes, it's players who have been around for a long time making more errors and that's what we'll address. We'll work out who's making the errors and they have to work harder to make sure they don't make them."[2]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"When Beau Waters, whose disposal skills are not always precise, kicked a miraculous goal early in the last term, West Coast had crept to within six points. That closed to five points when Quinten Lynch missed a goal from a set shot minutes later.
It's around this time that Fremantle supporters think about peeling onions because the Dockers will make you cry if you follow them for long enough.
But in a bruising, uncompromising game, Fremantle refused to capitulate. Skipper Matthew Pavlich's towering mark over Adam Hunter produced the goal that swung the momentum back.
Pavlich and swaggering tyro Rhys Palmer helped lay the foundation for victory in a five-goal second term when West Coast made more mistakes than a 14-year-old on his first date."[3]
The Age[]
"The Dockers had to overcome the loss of three players pre-match to get the win, including accomplished pinch-hitter Luke McPharlin.
They had to withstand a West Coast second-half rally. The Eagles may lack the class of recent seasons but they still have persistence.
And fittingly, it was teenager Rhys Palmer who ignited the Dockers - his 17-possession first half with Pavlich's three second-quarter goals the reason Fremantle took a lead to the main break.
The Eagles got good service from late replacement Ben McKinley, who kicked three, and they got their usual excellent efforts from ruckman Dean Cox and midfielder Daniel Kerr, but there is simply a lot less class in the Eagles' line-up than there used to be, and for the second week in a row, that added up to many possessions for insufficient result."[4]
