From the papers[]
The Age[]
"West Coast blitzed the bumbling Saints from the outset, the visitors unable to enter their attacking 50 in the opening 12 minutes.
Gardiner simply controlled the centre square, with 17 disposals and 21 hit-outs in the opening half in a performance that will haunt Capuano.
The Saints' defence wobbled in the face of swarming Eagles, who opened up a 21-point lead at quarter-time with Daniel Kerr kicking the last two goals of the term.
Kerr had 20 possessions by half-time as the Eagles booted seven second-term goals to three.
Captain Ben Cousins showed few ill effects from his ankle injury to conjure two great goals from left-foot snaps, while Matera was also at his menacing best, kicking three first-half goals to help open up a 47-point half-time lead for West Coast."[2]
