From the papers[]
The Sunday Age[]
"The Eagles also used the dry, fine conditions to advantage - handballing freely but also driving the ball to attack, looking for big grabs from Peter Sumich and Stevan Jackson.
At quarter time, after inspirational play from utility Peter Wilson, the Eagles led by two goals.
The second quarter changed the face of the game. The Eagles' runners shifted into top gear and cut any Footscray opposition to shreds. Led by strong ground players such as Troy Ugle, Dwayne Lamb, Craig Turley and David Hart, the Eagles ran hard to get to every contest.
On many occasions they outnumbered their Footscray opponents two to one. This epitomised the pattern of play."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"West Coast controlled the match by winning the ball out of the centre, although Footscray's young ruckmen Scott Wynd and Justin Charles kept getting first hand to the ball.
West Coast defenders Guy McKenna, Murray Rance and Dean Laidley also formed an impenetrable line across half back, and this meant the Bulldogs were always struggling.
Up forward, Karl Langdon dominated across the half forward line and Peter Sumich deserved a much better return than 3.4 from his 11 marks at full forward."[2]
