West Coast broke the club's week-old record for biggest victory and set a new club scoring record that would still be standing 30 years later with a ruthless obliteration of the Bears. The Eagles set up the victory with a ten-goal first term and managed to increase the margin at every change. David Hart kicked four goals from 28 possessions and Chris Mainwaring had 28 touches along with two majors.

From the papers[]

Canberra Times[]

"The Eagles were allowed by the Bears to roam and score at will and little pressure was applied on them.

They continually won the ball easily from the centre and bombarded the forward line with opportunities through the likes of utility John Worsfold and wingman Chris Mainwaring.

Glendinning was again in sparkling form at full-forward and finished with six goals.

He was ably aided by lively half-forwards Dean Laidley and Karl Langdon, who as well as kicking five goals between them, created numerous scoring opportunities."[1]
