From the papers[]
The Age[]
"The Swans, who have earned a reputation this season for highly skilled run-on football, showed that physical pressure, intense tackling and tough man-to-man work could also be part of their make-up.
Twice they looked beaten by the Eagles.
At the 17-minute mark of the second quarter, the Eagles, led by a superb Ross Glendinning at centre half-back and hard-working little men in rovers Wally Matera and Don Holmes, were in front by 17 points.
But the Swans came back strongly in the last eight minutes of that quarter to finish the first half three points in front - a sign of things to come."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"Swan Brownlow medallist Greg Williams sparked their last term revival, after being quiet early in the match, generating countless opportunities from the centre.
Sydney's glamour spearhead, Warwick Capper, took full advantage of the bombardment and finished the match with five goals, including three in the last term, and could have been further in front on the league goalkicking ladder if not for some easy misses earlier in the match as he showed too much pace and class for Eagles fullback Michael O'Connell.
Swans veteran defender Ian Roberts, was a constant springboard and earned the player-of-the-match title.
The Eagles skipper, Ross Glendenning, was a rock at centre-half-back and his weary legs and powerful hands stopped what could have been a last term avalanche."[2]
