A decimated West Coast lineup came within a few goals of a remarkable win over North Melbourne, losing the match but no fans with a gutsy effort. Having lost 12 players to health and safety protocols and Andrew Gaff to injury and fielding numerous debutants, underdone players and WAFL-listed top-ups, the Eagles were forced into a league-record 14th change just moments before the bounce when Jackson Nelson injured a knee. Despite the near-unrecognisable team, West Coast fought all day and finished just 15 points short. Willie Rioli shone with four goals from his 18 possessions while returning skipper Luke Shuey, in his first real hit-out of the year, stepped up with 23 touches, nine tackles and eight clearances.
