West Coast ended up on the wrong side of a tight tussle with Hawthorn in Launceston, hitting the front late in the final quarter through an Andrew Embley goal before an answer from Hawk Jade Rawlings sealed the win for the Hawks. Chad Fletcher worked hard for 31 touches and Michael Gardiner dominated in the air with 43 hitouts.

From the papers[]
The Age[]
"The Eagles were eight points down when a stirring passage along the wing ended with Matera turning his man inside out and running towards the goal, with only teammate Troy Wilson and opponent Hay between him and the sticks.
Hay waited, then charged and Matera snapped and missed from 15 metres.
Seven points down but gaining steam, West Coast got to within a point at the 19-minute mark after its best player, Chad Fletcher, used his 31st touch of the day to slot through a goal on his weaker right boot from the forward pocket.
A minute into time-on, Embley led and marked. When he calmly slotted home the goal from 45 metres, the Eagles looked like they stolen it.
But Crawford and Rawlings had other ideas."[2]
