West Coast battled hard against Collingwood, fighting back from six goals down to take the lead in the third quarter but ultimately went down by the smallest of margins as former Docker Brodie Holland kicked eight goals for the Pies. From the papers[]
The Sunday Age[]
"After Holland's burst in the first term - Braun moved on to him after he kicked three goals against Drew Banfield in 13 minutes - he again exploded with the last three goals of the third quarter to give the Magpies a 23-point lead and seeming deliverance.
But West Coast rallied. Judd had a hand in two goals and kicked one of his own as Malthouse wondered whether this was his 50th game rather than his first, while Wilson presented a strong lead and kicked three last-quarter goals to finish with five for the match.
His fifth took the Eagles within one point, and when Matera had a marking opportunity with the clock ticking down, James Clement ensured he spilled it, the Magpies then able to tie up the ball along the boundary and ensure their first victory of the season."[1]
