"On the firm sandy Subiaco surface, the Swans used the ball well, their key defenders dominated for most of the night and their forwards took enough of the many chances offered to seal the result.

Only errant kicking for goal ensured the Swans had to survive the torrid final few minutes, when the Eagles closed a 21-point gap at the start of the quarter to only six points with two minutes to play.

With the match in the balance, Matthew Nicks got a handball to Lewis, whose kick from near the boundary gave the Swans only their second victory against the Eagles at Subiaco in 13 years."
