From the papers[]

The Sunday Age[]

"The Jakovich domination was backed up by similar brilliance from Ashley McIntosh at full-back, while Jason Ball and Fraser Gehrig ruled in the forward line with 12 and nine marks respectively.

The battle on the ground was clearly won by the Eagles' mobile brigade, with Jarrad Schofield running himself to exhaustion (13 kicks in the first half), Michael Braun proving that his rising star nomination last week was justified and Peter Matera showing plenty of zip out of defence.

Shaw suggested that no more than four Magpie players could have won their positions over the night. That quartet would have been led by veteran Richard Osborne, who did well early in defence and then finished as a lively forward."[1]
