Adelaide beat West Coast for the first time, thanks mainly to a big second term that opened up a 38 point lead. The Eagles made some cosmetic improvements to the scoreboard in the final term. Peter Matera dominated his position with three goals from 29 possessions, and Robert West had 26 disposals.

From the papers[]
Canberra Times[]
"In addition to their potent attack, the Crows' defence was superb with Mark Bickley, Paul Rouvray and Ben Hart leading their more experienced opponents a merry dance as they continually repelled attacks.
The Eagles' scoring woes were not helped by ace full-forward Peter Sumich's inaccuracy as he kicked four behinds from set shots within 50 metres before breaking through for his first goal from a difficult snap early in the third quarter.
Sumich's success signalled a change in fortune for the reigning premiers as they fought to get back into the game.
The Eagles got to within 29 points shortly before three-quarter time, but a crucial goal to Crows' forward Matthew Liptak seconds before the siren restored his team's 36-point cushion going into the final term."[1]
