West Coast's chaotic 2024 season came to a close with a heavy loss to the Cats in Geelong. The Eagles, locked into 16th spot on the ladder and a fourth-straight season out of finals, looked to be heading for a record-breaking defeat when Geelong's lead hit a massive 100 points before the half-time siren, but were able to fight back in the second half, helped by the finals-bound Cats moving into preservation mode. Jack Hutchinson had the best game of his short career with 24 possessions and a goal, while Harley Reid capped off his impressive rookie season with two goals and a team-high six tackles to go with his 15 disposals.

Quarter by quarter[]
From the coach[]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"Geelong ran in waves and used the ball with precision, cutting the Eagles apart across the ground.
West Coast had no answers and at times and looked to be watching on as Geelong players full of intent streamed past them without a care.
Cameron kicked the opening two goals, before Ollie Henry joined the party with three first-quarter goals on his way to an equal-career high four majors.
Geelong’s dominance was laid bare in the stats, with at least every player getting two touches, while five Eagles hadn’t recorded a touch."[1]
Reserves[]
Round 21 (24 August)
West Coast's reserves were consigned to a fourth-straight wooden spoon with a big loss to East Fremantle at Lathlain Park in their final match of 2024. Once again, the Eagles went for long stretches without hitting the scoreboard, managing just two goals after quarter-time as the Sharks locked in their finals spot. Omitted midfielder Zane Trew had a team-high 31 possessions.
