2 J.Selwood (GEE)
1 T.Stengle (GEE)
West Coast's miserable season ended with one last thrashing, shown no mercy by a Geelong side that already had the minor premiership wrapped up. The Eagles were powerless to stop Geelong, who had a winning score on the board before halftime. Jamie Cripps kicked three goals to mark his 200th Eagles appearance and Tim Kelly had 28 disposals against his old side.

From the coach[]
"We played the best team in the competition, so we came up with a plan to be as competitive as we could be and I thought at stages we were but we get overwhelmed with their talent and fitness and their system, but strangely enough we will take some positives out of where we are heading. We had some horrendous turnovers with the ball so every time we tried to open the game up we turned the ball over. So, in the end it was difficult to get it out of our back half and in the second half in particular. We will lick our wounds; it has been a tough year. We’ve been playing better footy since the bye and today we just got overwhelmed.
"...We didn’t push numbers back although it might have looked like it. We are trying to play a certain way that stands up long term and we just couldn’t do it today. Some of the turnovers we gave the opposition made it very hard for our backs, our contest numbers were down, and they were just cleaner than us. It’s disappointing and we are not happy but that’s the team we’ve got at the moment.
"...Today wasn’t a step forward but we know where we are at so there were no major surprises today. We know Geelong are a very good side and we know we have a heap of work to do. We need to have a really good summer, get our personnel back and reflect on what’s been a really difficult year, take some positives out of it then hit the preseason as hard as we can."[1]
From the papers[]
The Sunday Times[]
"Geelong burst the proverbial dam wall in the second term with six unanswered goals from the nine-minute mark.
West Coast would have especially hated that they helped the Cats kick three of them. Josh Rotham gave his opponents the ball instead of a midfield stoppage when he did not return the footy properly to the umpire. Skipper Luke Shuey made a mess of a routine cross-ground square-up kick. Then Barrass missed Kelly with what should have been an easy short pass deep in defence.
It was a shame because Darling's brilliant set-shot bender from 45 metres at the six-minute mark of the term had brought the Eagles to within 15 points, and while the upset never looked likely, it was at least keeping the Cats honest."[2]
The Age[]
"Even when West Coast were challenging for premierships they endured beltings at GMHBA Stadium, and Saturday’s game was no different as a bottom-two team.
Geelong slammed through six opening-quarter goals, won every term and dominated inside-50s 62-27 in the rout.
Cameron Guthrie sent a scare through the Cats’ camp when he hurt his shoulder but Scott says the hard-running midfielder only went off as a precaution.
But Cats defender Jake Kolodjashnij will be in doubt to play in Geelong’s first final after entering the 12-day concussion protocols."[3]
Reserves[]
Round 18 (20 August)
An inexperienced West Coast fell to Lathlain Park co-tenants Perth, never recovering from a scoreless first quarter. Patrick Naish got plenty of the ball with 37 touches and Jed Kemp kicked three of his side's six goals.
