West Coast secured the minor premiership and warmed up for the finals with a comprehensive thrashing of the Tigers. The Eagles' midfielders clearly won their battles and regular precise entries into the forward 50 gave an undersized Richmond defence no hope. In just his fifth AFL game, small forward Mark LeCras announced himself as a player of the future with an impressive 5 goals 4 from 10 marks. Another youngster in Matt Rosa had a great game with 27 possessions and 14 marks to assist veterans Ben Cousins, Chris Judd and Chad Fletcher.

From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"The catalyst was Chad Fletcher, who picked up 13 first-term possessions, and LeCras, whose five marks and 2.2 tore shreds through the Tigers defence. The classy 20-year-old went on to kick 5.4 and ensure his third game this season wouldn't be his last.
Alongside him, Quinten Lynch highlighted his best MCG performance with long, accurate kicking and an appetite for running up the field. He dobbed one goal from 65m to fire a warning across the bows of opponents who might be happy to let him get the ball outside the 50m arc.
It was important forLynch and the Eagles that he stood up - and he finished with 10 marks, 21 disposals and 4.0. A similar showing come grand final day could be enough to push the Eagles home."
