West Coast limped towards the finals with a poor showing against St Kilda, giving up nine goals to two in the second quarter to lose any hope of a momentum-changing win. The Saints' dominance was so pronounced that Guy McKenna was convinced they had an extra man and called for a head count in the third quarter, something not seen in the league for decades. Ben Cousins kicked two goals from 25 possessions and Chad Rintoul amassed 23 touches of his own.
