From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Within the first two minutes of the last term, Stoneham received a free kick for holding the man and goaled to bring Geelong within three points.

Then Paul Couch, on the burst, steered the ball to Bill Brownless, who goaled to give his team the lead. After making all the running in the third term, West Coast was chasing and it did not surprise when Leigh Tudor goaled on the run from 50 metres out to extend Geelong's lead.

A Chris Waterman goal brought West Coast back to within five points but it never threatened again.

Two goals to Gary Ablett and a pearler to Stoneham as he gathered the ball in a pack, played on and converted, iced the game once and for all."[1]
