West Coast gave up the first 5 goals of the match and were already down by more than 9 goals when the teams hit the changerooms at half-time. It didn't get much better in the second half, Geelong's lead hit 76 points before a couple of late West Coast goals reduced the final margin. Those late goals weren't enough to prevent the Eagles from setting their lowest-ever score at Subiaco. Sharrod Wellingham was a rare bright spot for West Coast with 29 possessions and a goal, and Matt Priddis also had 29 touches.

From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Small forwards Motlop and Allen Christensen set the tempo - the former kicking two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game.

The high work rate and tough one-on-one play that has been a highlight of the Eagles' season since the mid-season bye was missing.

Geelong had 30 more possessions in the opening term and also had almost double the number of tackles.

The Cats kept the Eagles goalless in the second term and went in to the main break having entered their attacking 50 on 32 occasions to West Coast's 17."[1]

PerthNow[]

"The Cats had winners all over the ground and while Selwood and his on-ball team dominated relentless defenders Harry Taylor and Tom Lonergan held West Coast power forwards Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling goalless.

Kennedy retained a share of the lead in the Coleman Medal with Hawthorn gun Jarryd Roughead and exciting newcomer Jeremy Cameron from Greater Western Sydney with 60 majors, ahead of Collingwood big man Travis Cloke on 58.

Kennedy and Darling managed only eight possessions each and four marks between them to the final change when the ruthless Cats led by 70 points.

Darling booted his only goal inside the last two minutes of the dismal night."[2]
