Blown away in the first quarter, West Coast fought their way back into the match thanks to Dean Cox's dominanance in the ruck and the midfield work of Ben Cousins and Matt Priddis. The Eagles got in front by as much as 17 points in the final term before the Saints fought back to narrow the margin to just 3 points. A last-minute goal by Mark LeCras sealed the win. Quinten Lynch continued his good form with five goals.

From the papers[]
The Age[]
"When Ashley Hansen goaled early in the final term, the Eagles had advanced their third-quarter comeback to settle into a 17-point lead and appeared to have the game in hand.
St Kilda then goaled through Fraser Gehrig to bring the Saints back in touch and when Justin Koschitzke marked strongly and converted, the Saints were back within one straight kick.
A silly Matt Maguire 50-metre penalty for unnecessarily tackling Rowan Jones after a mark allowed the Eagles to restore the lead to nine points and establish some comfort. Matt Priddis and Ben Cousins were running through the Saints in the middle feeding off Dean Cox's ruckwork. Priddis also had an astonishing 15 tackles for the game, reflecting his work-rate as well as his run.
When Quinten Lynch kicked across his body for his fifth goal of the game, the Eagles again had tapped a St Kilda query away."[1]
